The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Adamawa State Branch, strongly rejects the recent sudden increase in petrol price by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The press release Saturday, issued by the state chairman of the NMA, Dr. Dahiru Yunusa Mohammed in Yola lamented that the “decision has made life very hard for Nigerians, including our members, who are already facing serious economic challenges and insecurity.

“The increase was ill-timed, as Nigerians are already facing serious economic challenges. The impact of this singular action will be severe, causing more stress, poverty, depression and may even worsen our health indices.

“It’s unfair for our members and other health workers, who are already overwhelmed with excessive workload and are now also expected to cope with continuous increase in the cost of living without commensurate increase in wages. The recent increase has made life even harder for healthcare professionals and all Nigerians.

“We urge his Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to act quickly and reverse the recent price increase and also improve on the living wage of civil servants in the country.

“This will bring relief to our members and the public, who are struggling with the increasing inflation, insecurity, high electricity bills, and heavy and multiple taxation.

“We advise the Federal Government to change its economic policies, produce petroleum products locally, and fix our refineries. Stopping insecurity is also crucial to creating a stable environment for economic growth and reducing hardship and poverty.

“The NMA Adamawa State will keep fighting for our members’ well-being and essential healthcare services under difficult conditions.

“We believe that with good leadership, Nigeria can overcome these challenges and create a better future. Thank you”.
