Nobody sack Lamido Adamawa as life chairman, Council of Emirs & Chiefs – Adamawa Assembly.
From Umar Dankano, Yola.
The Adamawa state House of Assembly has made clarification over the controversial report of sacking the paramount ruler, Lamido Adamawa as life chairman of the state Council of Emirs and chiefs.
Recall that the media space especially the social media was washed with the removal news item which generated confusion and disaffection among the people in the state and beyond.
Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Member representing Mayo-belwa constituency, Hon.Kalamu Musa Mahmoud declared at a press conference in Yola Friday that His Royal highness Lamido Muhammadu Barkido Aliyu Mustapha remains the Chairman, Council of Emirs and Chiefs in the state.
Kallamu, confirmed that the bill establishing the Adamawa State Council of Chiefs maintains the Lamido Adamawa’s position as Life Chairman as backed by Section 17 of the Adamawa State laws stressing that,Section 18 of law defines the council’s membership to include ; First-class chiefs, Second-class chiefs, Permanent Secretary of Chieftaincy Affairs and the ALGON Chairman (Association of Local Governments of Nigeria).
He clarified further that, the recent creation of zonal traditional councils does not affect the Lamido Adamawa’s role explaining that the Zonal councils will have rotational chairmanship but remain subordinate to the state chairman, the Lamido Adamawa.
“This clarification reaffirms the Lamido Adamawa’s status and dispels any misinformation and mis presentation regarding his leadership”Kallamu stated
Our Correspondent in Yola reported that the passage of an amended state law empowering the Governor to appoint and remove emirs and chiefs by the state Assembly which birth to creation of 83 new districts has been a subject matter on the front banner in the state at the moment.
Some pundits are viewing the development as a transformative gesture in the traditional arena while others are kicking against such move perusing it as a way to witch-hunt those in the traditional circle who were presumed to have supported other governorship candidate other than Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in the last 2023 governorship election which was marred with political intrigues in the state.
