NUT Urges Governors to prioritize teachers welfare, Charge teachers to professionalized

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT has charged its practicing members to put more effort to professionalized for effective , efficient and improved quality education in the country.
President of the Union, Comrade Audu Titus Amba gave the charge at the Adamawa state NUT delegate conference in Yola Tuesday stressing that as educational and behavioral moulders, teachers need to upgrade their educational status or qualifications with a view to be in tune with the changing times.
Comrade Amba referring to the delegate conference’s theme ; “Education challenge in an Economy of Uncertainty: Effect of teachers.” said teachers must be productive through professional trainings and retrainings with a view to respond to their professional challenges.
Amba appeal to the state Governors to prioritize welfare package of the teachers in their various states to solely enhance quality of education at the grassroot levels.
Commenting on the national minimum wage, Amba called on Governors to implement the agreed national minimum wage in their states observing that delaying the implementation would create room for arrears to workers which can turn to labour and litigation matters.
He categorically announced that based on the reports received from the states that implemented the national minimum wage decried that workers were overtaxed.
He called on delegates to elect leaders who would lead well and be bold enough to protect the interests of teachers.
Corroborating the predicament of over taxation by state governors,Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Adamawa Branch, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, in his good will message decried that the recent implementation of the national minimum wage in the state really exposed what he called over-taxation of the civil servants in the state,
Comrade Fashe commended the state government for the recent employment of qualified teachers, calling for employment of more, especially primary school teachers urging the delegates to conduct themselves in an orderly manner and vote wisely.
In his remarks, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri reiterated the commitment of his administration in taking education as a top list priority in his first and second tenures.
Represented by his Senior Special Adviser,SSA on Education Reforms, Prof. Sofema Geoffrey, said Governor Fintiri’s administration’s is doing a lot to develop education sector in the state.
Geoffrey said NUT has a lot to showcase in term of support to government to ensuring quality education in the state advising the delegates to conduct a peaceful conference.
He assured that other issues raised at the forum, especially the ones on over-taxation, would be put into consideration.
Our Correspondent in Yola reported that at the end of the delegate conference, Comrade Mohammad Abubakar Faisal was elected the new NUT chairman after scoring 177 votes to defeat his opponent, Comrade Captain Gidauna who got 8 votes.
In his inaugural and Acceptance speech.Comrade Faisal pledged to carry everybody along and to run an open government.
