Over 50 HoR Lawmakers back Kyari, saying he cannot be removed while the investigation is ongoing
By Tom Garba
Over fifty House of Representatives (HoR) lawmakers cutting across various constituencies in the country refuted a call by colleagues numbering fifteen for the removal of the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari.
Hon Billy Osawaru from Edo State, on behalf of the fifty other Lawmakers who addressed media men today in Abuja, said the fifteen lawmakers, under the aegis of The Economy Rescue Group, have acted prematurely, knowing the fact that the parliamentary culture decides a matter under investigation when it is finally concluded.
“We wish to State that it’s in the parliamentary culture; therefore, the call of the removal of anyone while the investigation is ongoing is premature,” Billy said
Billy, while calling on all Nigerians to be patient and be law abiding in expectation of a better Nigeria, said it’s unwise for those calling for Kyari’s removal.
He said it’s important to address the media because their attention has been drawn by some media outlets calling on the removal of Kyari to put the record straight.
According to him, the hike in fuel prices and associated challenges are fundamental concerns, a reason why the House of Representatives, via its resolution, mandated the House Joint Committee on the mainstream and downstream petroleum sector to investigate the issues in the oil and gas sector.
Billy, however, said that over Fifty of them are deeply concerned and have converged to appraise the 1st August protest staged by Nigerian Youth.
He commended the national assembly, particularly the House of Representatives under the leadership of Rt Hon Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, for convening the Youth dialogue to dose the attention surrounding the scheduled protest.
“Having observed the nationwide protest, we commend the Youth and the Nigerians in general for the manner they have conducted themselves. We appeal for calm while employing all Nigerians to bring the protest to an end.” He said
The Lawmakers are of the view that Kyari is bringing sound policies and a lot of innovation in the oil industry, and Nigeria should not be fast in calling for his removal.
