PCC @ 50: Zulum assures continue partnership with the commissions quest of fairness, justice and rule of law

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has assured of his administrations continued partnership with the Public Complain commission (OCC), to ensure fairness, justice, equity and administrative justice and rule of law.

Speaking at the occasion mark 50th Anniversary of the establishment of PCC, held at PCC office, Maiduguri yesterday said “It is our resolve, that commitment to supporting the work of public complain commission within our jurisdiction and compliment of our efforts to foster accounting and transiency ”

Represent by the Secretary to the Borno state Government, (SSG), Hon Bukar Tijjani, Zulum said ” As we mark this golden jubilee, let this occasion serve as renewed call to all arms of government to renew their commitment to strengthen their partnership with Public complain commission, let us reaffirm our collective commitment to the cause of justice fairness service to humanity and rule of law. “.

“On this note i want to congratulate the public complain commission for five decades of service to nation and also explore the public Complain commission to continue to listen to grievances and also solve the grievances of the citizens.

I assure you that my administration will continue to provide the necessary leadership so that all can operate and no one would be left behind.”, the Governor said.

The Governor said This occasion provides a moment of sober reflection for the indispensable role the institution plays in strengthening our democracy .

The establishment of Public complain Commission half a century ago is a visionary act of institutional engineering It was to serve as a critical mechanism to address administrative grievances and provide a necessary steps in the exercise of public authority.”.

Zulum said “For 50 years the commission has steadfastly upheld it mandate operating as a vital bridge between the citizenry and the apparatus of the state. The core function of the commission which has been enumerated by earlier speakers , ombudsman is fundamental to good governance and ofcourse the public complain commission is a Pilar of rule of law in our dear country.”

“It’s with great honour that i join you today commemorating milestone in our nation governance space, that golden jubilee of the public complain commission , Nigerian ombudsman’s 50 years of administrative justice and service to humanity.”, Zulum said.

He said “By receiving and investigating complains by the citizens against public agencies, private entities and their officials the commission performs a critical oversight function, it provided avenue to protect the right of citizens, promotes the principles of transparency and accountability as well as provide a formal platform of alternative dispute through mediation and reconcilation.”.

“At this point i also have to recognize and commend our traditional institutions led by the Shehu of Borno and other emirs, our district heads, village heads ward heads, as well as community leaders who resolve grievances even before it comes to public complain commission.”, he further stressed.

He also said , the commission, a part from resolving individual cases, its recommendations also serve as catalyst of systematic reforms helping to identify the needs for reforms among government ministries, department and agencies, stressing that the proactive dynamics of the commissions works was essential for the continues improvement of public service delivery.

“In Borno state, we recognize the profound alignment between the mission of the public complain commission and our commitment in building a just and equitible and efficiently admistered state.

I beg the garden of two of our major institutions, Borno state, Civil service commission and the local government service commission, as well as the office of the Head of Service for continue to play jey roles in resolving the issues ethics, grievances and complains within the service.”, added.

It is our resolve, that commitment to supporting the work of public complain commission within our jurisdiction and compliment of our efforts to foster accounting and transiency

Speaking in an interview with Journalists, the Borno state Federal commissioner Public Complain Commission, Alhaji Yusuf Adamu said the commission under his watch has received over 8,400 complain and case and treated and resolved over 700 cases.

The Federal commissioner said “We have received more than 8,400.cases and we have dwell and resolve over 700 cases , it is a continuous process, every day we receive and treat cases, and done be suprise by the time I get to the office more that will have come in or resolve ”

He said ” I am am happy you are here to celebrate with us in the provision of social services to humanity, we dwell on administrative justice, if you have problem with any government institution you should lodge your complain, anybody feel shortcharge by his employer should Rush to us, we will do a provono case,( free of charge) that’s what we do, I am happy that you are here to celebrate with us . 50 years of a life time is not a small journey, in the process of our journey we have done a lot.”

“We have done justice, equity and fair play to the people I remembered I had a case of N5000,, somebody came with a case of N5000 I told him why are you coming here, he told me it is his right to seek redress, we work on his case and make sure we do justice and he was happy.. we resolved the case and he got back his money”, Adams said.

Alhaji Adamu said ” People should come in, whenever they have any grievances just rush to us we will follow it, it is free. We will follow it to the later. The process of lodging a complain is easy, just write to us, addressed to us, state your complain and sign the letter. We have good and qualified lawyers they advise us and follow the case to the later.”
