Polio : Adamawa flags off NIPDs target 1.4m children

The Adamawa state government has flagged off 2026 National immunization plus days,NIPDs tar getting 1.4 million children in the state.

Executive Chairman of the Adamawa state Primary health care Development Agency ADSPHCDA, Dr Bashir Suleiman Sai’du stated that despite the state been declared a polio free state,there is need for campaigns on the immunization exercise to ensure the status is maintained.

Dr.Sa’idu announced at a media engagement held in Yola on Saturday that the projection of his Agency (ADSPHCDA) is to close rank so that no new case of polio occurs without detection

He explained that 1,685 personnel have been engaged for the four days exercise and are all designated into House to house, fixed mobile and Special team for effective coverage.

He explained that as the immunization exercise commenced on Sunday 29th and ends on the 1st of April 2026, there would another two days continuation for mob up on areas not captured across the 226 political wards in the 21 LGAs.

While urging the media for more awareness and information flow on the immunization and other health related issues, Sai’du opined that cases of polio resurfacing happened because of traveling with some countries had little vulnerability because of their inability to complete their vaccines.

Launching the exercise at Atiku Abubakar health Centre in Yola North local government area on Sunday officials of the Adamawa state primary health care Development Agency and development partners including WHO, Unicef and E-Health Nigeria urged parents to bring out their children for the immunization.

Executive chairman of Yola North, Barrister Ibrahim Jibrin Jimeta while delivering his speech at the flag off charged residents in the council and state at large to comply with the ongoing exercise so that their wards would have healthy growth.

Representative by the Vice Chairperson, Hon. Sai rah Nathan called on the traditional leaders to ensure their subjects are well informed about advantages of the polio immunization which will go a long way in preventing the disease among our children.

Speaking at the event, Unicef Health officer, Bauchi Field office. Mr.Oluseyi Olosunde, the Unicef Health officer,Bauchi Field office said that Unicef partnership with the Adamawa state government is very productive and successful noting his organization is fully committed to the exercise.

Olosunde urged the health workers to ensure no child is left out as the vaccines are potent, effective,efficient and available noting that a single child with polio is dangerous to the entire society.
