Qatar government provides scholarship to 1,000 orphans of Boko Haram insurgency

The Qatar government, through Qatar Charity Foundation has offered scholarship to 1,000 children orphaned as a result of over a decade long Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state.
The Ambassador State of Qatar mission in Nigeria, Dr Ali Ibn Ghanem who disclosed this when he paid a courtesy call on the Governor Babagana Zulum at the Government House, Maiduguri on Thursday said the government of Qatar through Qatar foundation is offering scholarship to 1000 children orphaned as a result of Boko Haram insurgency.
Ambassador Ghanem said ” I was in Borno to strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and Qatar and Borno state in particular. ”
” Borno and Qatar have a long history and relationship right from Kanem Borno empire, where trade and Islamic knowledge were exchange “, Amb. Ghanem said.
He commended the Borno state government for the hospitality accorded him and his entourage and assured the Borno state government of continued support and partnership.
Responding, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state while thanking the Qatar government for their support said the Qatar government through Qatar charity foundation were in Borno last four months where they requested for land for humanitarian support and today they are here for the ground breaking and foundation laying of orphanage home, school, hospital among others.
The governor said plans are under way by the Qatar government to construct an estate as , part of their support to the resettlementdrive of the Borno state government.
” The relationship between Borno and Kingdom of Qatar need not to be over emphasize, as Borno is known as centre for Quranic knowledge in Nigeria and Africa by extension. Borno also have Arabs”, Zulum added.
