Save us from sack – Enyimba CSO, others beg Otti
The Chief Security Officer of Enyimba Football Club of Aba, Ogbonnaya Agwu, has alleged that about eight staff of the club have been told to stop work by the Sporting Director of the club, Mr Ifeanyi Ekwueme.
This is even as the Sporting Director has denied sacking anybody, saying that the fresh story of a sack in the Aba club is being peddled to tarnish the image of the State government.
But the Chief Security Officer, who addressed the press in Umuahia alongside two other staff of the club, alleged that they have been asked to stop work despite the position of the state government that nobody has been sacked.
He lamented that the dedicated staff who have been stopped from work had also not been paid for about four months, but noted that other staff of Enyimba have received their salaries recently.
He further alleged that there are plans by the sporting director to sack more Enyimba staff and replace them with persons who are not even from Abia State.
He listed the names of Enyimba staff allegedly relieved of duty including; Agwu Ogbonnaya, the Chief Security Officer, Mr Maduka Anyaso, Uche Ezekiel, Felix Etu, Monday Agu, Onyeukwu Victor Obike, who is a cameraman, and three others.
According to him, the directive to sack them was allegedly given by Ndubuisi Ofoma, on behalf of the sporting director
“We are appealing to Governor Alex Otti to recall the staff that was unjustifiably sacked because we know that the sack of workers was not authorized by the governor but was carried out by the sporting director, who claimed that he takes orders from the club chairman, Kanu Nwankwo.
However, when contacted, the new Sporting Director of Enyimba, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, described the allegations as calculated attempts to smear the image of Governor Otti and the state in general.
He made it clear that no staff was sacked by Enyimba and challenged the Chief Security Officer and others to provide letters of dismissal from the club management to prove that they had been relieved of duties.
Ekwueme, who said that the new management is out to take Enyimba to higher glory, advised that no Enyimba staff should allow himself to be used by the opposition to cause problems in the club.
Ekwueme however, disclosed that the Chief Security Officer, Ogbonnaya Agwu, allegedly exhibited negligence of duty recently at the club by not providing enough security in the club as expected of his responsibility, which made the Team Manager ask him to step aside from duty for now.
“Nobody was sacked. Let them show the letter of their sack. They are only trying to bring the governor into what he is not part of,”
