Sen. Ahmed Lawan Dismisses Defection Rumors, Reaffirms Loyalty to APC
By Hussaini Ibrahim
Former Senate President and Senator representing Yobe North, Ahmad Lawan, has dismissed speculations about his alleged defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In a statement on Sunday signed by his media adviser, Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, Lawan described the reports and campaign posters circulating in some quarters as “false, baseless, and without any merit.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, stating that he remains a “steadfast and loyal member” of the ruling party.
“Senator Ahmad Lawan remains a key stakeholder in the APC and will continue to work with the party and the government to ensure the success of their collective goals,” the statement read.
The senator, who has served in the National Assembly for 25 years, emphasized his consistent political alignment, highlighting that he has never defected from his party affiliations.
He recalled his political journey from the House of Representatives in 1999 to the Senate in 2007 under the All People’s Party (APP), which later became the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) before merging into the APC in 2013.
Lawan also reaffirmed his support for Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and commended his leadership in improving governance in the state. Additionally, he expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stating his belief in the government’s policies and reforms aimed at addressing national challenges.
“We urge the general public, party members, and supporters to disregard these unfounded rumours and posters, as they are nothing but the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking to create unnecessary distractions,” the statement added.
Lawan assured his continued focus on legislative responsibilities and his commitment to supporting the APC-led administration in delivering good governance and sustainable development to Nigerians.
