Senator Abbo advise Fintiri on revenue generation, water supply than flyovers in Adamawa

From Umar Dankano,Yola.

The Adamawa state Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has been urge to develop workable strategies to improve internally generated revenue in the state.

Former Senator Ishaku Abbo gave the advice during an interview with newsmen  in Yola stressing that, the state government under Governor Fintiri needs to urgently redirect its energy towards creation of revenue generation avenues warning that in the event the federal government stop sharing money from the federation account.

Abbo expressed serious concern over total reliance on the Federal allocation for states observing that Adamawa state would be in limbo in a situation where the manna coming from the federal purse stops.

“The revenue generation in Adamawa State cannot pay our salary. What if tomorrow problem comes and federal government stop giving us money? We will go hungry and be amongst the poorest people in Africa. Government must begin to look inward to source for more revenue,” he said

He also challenge the Governors in the new trend of building unnecessary flyovers and underpass in the name of urban development drive maintaining that projects with direct bearing on the people like portable drinking water and  equipping hospitals are more vital than wasteful projects.

“Flyover is beautiful. It is urban beautification but nobody sleeps under them. Please redirect the energy with which you are building flyovers to provide water for everybody we will clap for you if you do that.

“It amounts to a huge paradox and leadership inertia for the people of Yola who live at the bank of River Benue to be staying thirsty.

“Natural resources abound in Adamawa State, River Benue is one of them. The government should review the water distribution system. Currently, one push-push truck of water sells between N1,500 to N2,500 depending on the area where one lives. If you have four children you will be forced to start rationing water.

“So we are now not only rationing food but rationing water like people living in Refugee camps while we are sitting at the bank of River Benue. This is irresponsible leadership

“Politicians should understand that building bridges and painting them with black paint is not development. We must begin to act like modern people. We cannot continue with the archaic system,” he said.

The senator who decried the hardship people are going through on the account of government failure to provide the basic necessities of life said the situation is becoming dicey and hopeless by the day noting that inflationary forces are pushing families to the precipice of pulverization.
