Subsidy Removal: Yobe Govt Inaugurates Committee On Cash Palliative Package To Civil Servants

Yobe State Secretary to the State Government Baba Malam Wali mni today Thursday 25th January, 2024 inaugurated a six-member committee on the implementation of N35,000 wage award to civil servants as palliative to cushion the effect of removal of fuel subsidy.
The committee, which was constituted by the State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, last week, has the Secretary of the State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, as its Chairman, with the Permanent Secretary (Establishment), Malam Shuaibu Amshi, as Secretary.
Other members are the State Commissioner for Finance,Alhaji Muhammad Abacha Geidam, Hon. Commissioner Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu Jajere, State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, State Chairman of Trade Union Congress, as well as the Yobe State Head of Service Malam Hamidu Alhaji.
The committee has as its terms of reference, determining the financial implication of implementing the wage award, negotiating with Labour on acceptable rate to both government and Labour Union, as well as recommending to government, the amount to be paid.
The Chairman of the committee, Baba Malam Wali mni promised that the assignment would be completed within the shortest time possible, and their recommendations, submitted to His Excellency the Executive Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni.
It would be recalled that Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed the payment of N35,000 as palliative to Federal civil servants for six months as part of efforts to cushion the effects of removal of fuel subsidy.
He had also enjoined State Governments to follow suit by doing same to their civil servants.
