Supporting Flood Victims In Adamawa: Hon. La’ori Commended The Efforts of FG
By Muh’d Shafi’u Saleh
The efforts of the federal government of Nigeria to provide food and necessities to the people affected by the flood in Adamawa state have been commended.
Hon. La’ori, who represents Demsa/Numan/Lamurde federal constituency in the House of Representatives, stated this when he was receiving the relief materials on behalf of the flood victims in his constituency on Thursday in Numan.
Hon La’ori, who was represented by the special adviser to governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, on food security, Dr. Dishi Kobe, expressed his happiness with the contribution that the federal government has given to the people affected by the flood recently.
He said, “We thank NEMA for bringing us the support on behalf of the federal government, you did what you should, this coincided with the time Memba helped our youths with 100-100 thousand and we thank him.
He continued that, Hon. La’ori did not start supporting us today, in fact we were not given food distribution until he became a member of the House of Reps, every six months he distributed food, or supported people by paying scholarship and other things, and he does so until today.
While warning the members of the distribution committee, Dr. Dishi Kobe said, “This support is for the flood victims, make sure that the affected people will benefit. The member will continue to look for us in the future, make sure everyone gets at least a little” said Dishi.
Also speaking, Adamawa state commissioner of the Ministry of Information and strategy Hon James Iliya, thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, NEMA and Hon. La’ori, the diligence he showed in the chamber has a greater for them.
“We are grateful to our people for the patience they showed, of not getting the help on time, we advise the committee to ensure that you work with fairness and honesty in your share, we thank the member who complimented the efforts of the Adamawa government” He said.
Also speaking, the chairmen of Numan and Lumurde local governments areas, Hon Innocent Kotu and Hon Bulus Daniel, praised the efforts of Hon La’ori, “when the flood happened, I called him and I heard his voice speak in the Green Chamber and before the arrival of this items, he sent us to support the people of Bemun, this is the leader.
“It is good if we distribute these goods to those who are affected by the flood, not to those who are not affected, because it is said that it was brought to the victims of the flood, we know the victims, in some local governments, not all wards are not affected by the flood, the one whose ward you know is not flooded does not have to get the support” He emphasized.
Earlier in his speech, the head of operation of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Adamawa and Taraba states, Mr Ladan Ayuba, said that the federal government sent food items to ease the suffering of the flood victims.
He continued that “distribute the goods honestly, we should not give the number of people not affected, but the member has the numbers, he knows the situation better than we do, because he represents the three local governments, if you get it, call and say Thank you to Hon member.
Mr Happy Maxwell, a member of the committee for the distribution in Demsa local government, assured the Journalist that the distribution was fair and just as we were chosen and entrusted with the distribution, we will not betray the trust.
“We have been given three messages, the first is not about the party, because the flood does not know the party, secondly drought does not know the party, the thirdly is there are tired people who are tired and have nothing to do, their parents are tired, yes this winter they will be helped with mats and blankets,” he said.
Some of the items that the federal government has distribute to the people affected by the flood include Rice, Maize, Maggi, Cooking Oil, Blankets, Tomatoes and Mats.
