Tension in Adamawa over Tuesday night attack on police Command

By Shamsudeen Musa, Yola.

The tuesday night attack on police command has generated unease and serious panic on the state populace Wednesday morning as activities was moving in snail spead for fear of recurrence.

Unidentified gunmen reportedly launched an audacious attack on the state police command which lasted for nearly 30 minutes sparking serious tension across the state capital as residents say if a well fortified security force like the command can be attacked with ease, then the whole state is vulnerable.

A resident of Yola, Muhammad Sani said at no time in the history of the state, was the police command attacked with so much ease even during the Boko Haram insurgency.

“The attack on the police command which is seen as one of the most fortified places is definitely a bad omen for all of us in the state. It is a pointer to a serious gap in security administration in the state.

“Even at the peak of Boko Haram insurgency, the command never came under such a vile attack. Has the police intelligence failed?,” he queried.

Adamawa State Police command is located close to the government house Yola and the DSS headquarters.

A resident of Yola told our correspondent that fierce sound of gunshots which lasted for close to 30 minutes distorted the peace of the night and woke many from their sleep.

Efforts to speak to the PPRO of the state police command, SP Sulaiman Nguroje was futile as a message and voice calls directed at his number were not responded to.

According to Daily Trust, Nguroje has confirmed the attack but said things were under control adding that the attack has been repelled. This paper could not establish any casualty on the side of the police or the attackers.

There were speculations that the attackers were military personnel on a revenge mission over the alleged killing of a military officer by the police. This paper could not also independently verify this claim before going to press.
