The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has hailed the TETFund National Research Fair and Exhibition 2024 as a landmark event for leveraging research and innovation to advance Nigeria’s development. Speaking at a press briefing at Eagle Square, Abuja, he confirmed preparations are complete for the event scheduled from November 18th to 21st, 2024.
Dr. Alausa described the fair as a “call to action” for academic and research institutions to address critical national challenges. He emphasized that Nigeria’s vast intellectual and natural resources must be harnessed for sustainable growth, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He further highlighted the fair’s role in fostering collaborations across academia, government, and the private sector to spur innovation in healthcare, agriculture, and energy. The Minister also announced a ₦5 billion investment approved by President Tinubu to support impactful research through TETFund’s National Research Fund.
“This event marks a step toward transforming Nigeria into a knowledge-driven economy,” Dr. Alausa stated, urging the media to ensure widespread coverage to encourage nationwide participation.
Earlier, Engr. Umar Bindir, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, stressed the need for synergy between ministries, research institutes, and the private sector. He highlighted consultations with key stakeholders, including NASENI, SMEDAN, financial institutions, and intellectual property bodies, to drive sustainable innovation.
Bindir underscored the shift from exporting raw materials to producing goods locally, stating, “This is a turning point. Soon, we will see Nigerian-made products like sewing machines replacing imports, ensuring economic growth through sustained local production.”
