VP Shettima Leads Tributes For Ex-Governor Bukar-Abba Ibrahim

By Hussaini Ibrahim Sulaiman

Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed profound grief over the passing of former Yobe State Governor, Sen. Bukar-Abba Ibrahim calling it a “sad week” for the region.

VP Shettima, who paid a condolence visit to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Thursday, hailed the late former Governor Ibrahim as an “epitome of kindness,” an “icon of humility,” and one of the “last of the great titles of Yobe.”

“We are surely going to miss him,” he lamented. “It’s a sad day, a sad week for the people of Yobe, Borno, the North East and the nation as a whole.”

The Vice President emphasized the close ties between Borno and Yobe, calling them “siamese twins,” and expressed his condolences on behalf of President Bola Tinubu. He also highlighted Ibrahim’s legacy, including the Yobe State University, the Shehu Sule School of Nursing, and the Yobe State Polytechnic.

“But most importantly,” Shettima said, “we are all going to miss him for his simplicity, his kindness, his forgiving spirit and his abilities to embrace all tendencies.”

Responding, Governor Buni expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu and Shettima for their visit, saying, “We can’t thank you enough for supporting us at this very solemn moment.”

“Like you rightly captured, we are going to miss him in so many ways but we must take solace in the fact that we are all in transit awaiting our appointed times,” he added.
