WATER AND DAMS REVITALIZATION, TOP PRIORITY OF NEW NIGER AGENDA

Niger state government says Water and Dams revitalization programme will continue to remain top most priority of the present administration of New Niger Agenda.

State Governor Alh Mohammed Umar Bago stated this when he received the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Talolo Utsev, on a visit at the Government House  Minna the state capital.

Represented by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba the Governor noted that the State Government has made Water and Dams revitalization a priority in driving the green economy to succeed.

He said irrigation and dams development will create great opportunity in green economy and other water body businesses, stressing that about thirty percent of the state Water Resources is under utilise and untapped, noting that the State Government water sector revitalization programme is ongoing is receiving Governor Muhammad Umar Bago’s attention.

According to him Upper Niger River Basin Authority interventions in Lapai and Agaie, would significantly impact positively on the people, urging the Federal Government to do more towards developing water bodies in the State, as part of dams utilization, as partnership and collaboration will revive the moribund water sector by kickstarting rural green economy in the State.

He however highlighted boreholes, irrigation and fishing, as things the Federal Government should harness and intervene, especially borehole, while requesting that the River Basin Authority interventions should be mindful of the state’s needs in terms of rural economic revival.

Earlier the inister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Talolo Utsev, described his visit to Niger State, as part of effort towards taking stocks and inventory of Upper Niger River Basin Authority, as the agency is part of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, overseeing the water basins of Niger, Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.

The Minister, stated that Upper Niger River Basin interventions in the State is in Lapai, Agaie, Bida and Suleja water bodies, and asked the State Government to make more land available in the State, towards attaining the President’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.
