Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, on Friday presented a house and cash gift to some security personnel who suffered injuries as a result of an attack by insurgents along the Maiduguri – Damaturu road on Nov.18, 2023.

DAILY HINT reports that, the Governor, when Presenting the gift, commiserated with the affected officers and prayed for the repose of the soul of one of them that lost his life.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, the governor said the government and people of Yobe will continue to appreciate and reward gallant security personnel who are making sacrifices for peace to reign in the state.

He urged them to continue the good work, pledging the support of the state Government in whatever way possible.

During the presentation ceremony, Mrs Sadiya Mohammed Maina, wife of deceased Police Corporal Mohammed Maina who was killed during the attack, was given N2 million capital to start a business of her choice, and N1 million for settling school fees of her two children.

She and her children were also presented with a house worth N7.5 million in Damaturu the Yobe State capital.

Some other security personnel who sustained different degrees of injuries during the attack were given N1 million each.

The presentation of the cheque, which took place at the office of the Secretary to the State Government had in attendance, Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam, Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Executive Governor of Yobe State; Alhaji Abdulkarim Mai Umar, Permanent Secretary Administration in the office of the SSG; Alhaji Baba Gaidam Kachalla, Permanent Secretary Political Affairs in the office of the SSG.

Others who attended include Alhaji Yakubu Musa Damagum, Director of Security services in the office of the SSG; Alhaji Suma’ila Mai Adamu, DG Bureau of Public Procurement; Chief Security officer, Government House and Commander Police Special Operation, Damaturu, and many other security personnel.

It would be recalled that on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, security personnel attached to Government House Damaturu, were injured in an ambush by suspected Boko Haram fighters along the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway while returning to the state from Borno.

In other hand, the State lost its son, who was the former governor of state, Sen. Bukar Abba Ibrahim who died in Saudi Arabia.

A statement by the Director Press to the governor, Mamman Mohammed, issued to the DAILY HINT, the conveyed his heartfelt condolence to the family of the deceased.

The statements read: “It is with a heavy heart, sorrow, and sympathy that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe state, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, regret to announce the passing away of His Excellency, Sen. Bukar Abba Ibrahim, the former Governor of Yobe state.

“Sen. Bukar died today while receiving treatment for a protracted illness in Saudi Arabia and will be buried there.

“Governor Buni has directed all other aspects of the funeral and condolences to be taken over by the state government to accord the late governor a state burial and honour.

“Meanwhile, condolences are to be received by His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Government House Mosque (Masjid), Damaturu.

Governor Buni described the death as a huge loss to the government and people of the state.

“This is a huge loss for us at this time, but that is the wish of Allah, our creator, May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and admit him into Aljannatu Firdaus” the governor prayed.

He called on the people and friends of Yobe State to join his family, the government, and the people of the state to pray for the repose of the soul of the former governor.

Late Bukar, a former governor and former Senator representing Yobe East, died at the age of 75 years.

As part of his commitment to cushion the hardship people suffering following the skyrocketing commodities, the Governor presided over an emergency meeting on food security in the state.

The meeting expresses deep concern over the hoarding of grains and other essential commodities, creating artificial scarcity with more hardships to the people.

A communique issued at the end of the meeting stated that the state government has taken measures to check bulk purchases from the markets in the state.

The communique stated that Yobe state government is liaising with security agencies to check the activities of unpatriotic smugglers mopping up grains in the markets.

It also stated that the government would soon roll out concrete measures to cushion the effects of the rising cost of foodstuff and other commodities.

The communique directed for a similar stakeholders meeting in the 17 local government councils to ensure implementation of the decisions taken by the state government.
