1. NIGERIAN TROOPS PLEDGED TO ELIMINATE TERRORISTS IN THE COUNTRY 

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa has said that the military will flush out bandits and terrorists from the country. The CDS made the commitment on Friday in Kaduna when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Uba Sani at the government house.

2. FG INVITES NLC, TUC TO EMERGENCY MEETING

The Federal Government on Friday invited the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) to an emergency meeting.

The meeting was fixed by the Federal Government to avert the planned nationwide strike on October 3.

The unions had announced that workers would proceed on indefinite strike over the government’s failure to provide palliatives to cushion the effect of the removal of subsidy on petrol.

Among other things, the NLC and the TUC are asking for wage awards, implementation of palliatives, tax exemptions and allowances to public sector workers and a review of the minimum wage.

3.  GROUP URGES TINUBU TO RESIGN FROM OFFICE 

President Bola Tinubu has been advised by the United States chapter of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) to resign and save the country from embarrassment.

The group advised in a statement issued on Monday, September 25, 2023, while reacting to the controversy surrounding the academic records of the President. NADECO stated that the controversy has caused the Chicago State University to find itself on the precipice of disrepute, teetering on the brink of losing international credibility and accreditation.

The group also condemned the present socio-economic challenges that Tinubu’s government’s failed policies brought upon Nigerians, asking him to resign and save the country from irreprehensible damage.

4. TRIBUNAL SACK PLATEAU ASSEMBLY SPEAKER

The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Moses Sule has been sacked by the election petition tribunal sitting in Jos, the state capital.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, was sacked alongside the member representing Jos North West constituency in the assembly, Danjuma Azi.

The tribunal, however, declared the former majority leader of the house, Hon. Naanlong Daniel and Hon. Mark Na’ah, all of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as winners of the March 18 election.

The petitioner had challenged the sponsorship of the Sule and Azi because the PDP was not qualified to participate in the election for lack of party structure.

5. TINUBU’S MINISTER ALLEGEDLY POISONED

The Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John, has reportedly been hospitalised in Abuja after allegedly suffering acute poisoning of unknown origins.

According to Peoples Gazette, her family members feared time was running against their efforts to save her life. The publication claimed that the Minister was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, shortly after she started manifesting symptoms of her poisoning. Family sources allegedly disclosed that Lola had spent four days at the facility as of Friday morning.

6. TRIBUNAL IN AKWA IBOM UPHOLDS THE VICTORY OF PASTOR UMO ENO

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akwa Ibom State, on Friday, upheld the election of Pastor Umo Eno of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the validly elected governor of the State. Delivering judgement in the suit numbered EPT/AKW/GOV/01/2023, which sought to nullify the election, the tribunal headed by Justice Adekunle Adeleye upheld the preliminary objections bothering on jurisdiction and non-qualification of the 2nd Respondent and declared that Eno was eminently qualified to run for the election.

7. DEMOCRACY NOT GOOD FOR NIGERIA – BANKOLE

A former Acting National Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Chief Alani Bankole has stated that democracy is not the best system of government for Nigeria. Bankole spoke on Friday shortly after he was unveiled by the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, as the Apena of Egbaland at the Ake Palace, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

8. YOU CAN’T HIDE UNDER PRIVACY – ATIKU TELLS TINUBU

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday, told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that he (Tinubu) cannot use the excuse of privacy law to stop the release of his academic records by the Chicago State University (CSU).

Atiku, who stated this in his reply to Tinubu’s objection to the order of Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Gilbert, maintained that Tinubu’s objection was incompetent and lacking in merit.

According to the former Vice President, all the grounds of objections raised by Tinubu against the execution of the lawful order of the Magistrate Court were resolved by Justice Gilbert after listening to parties.

9. DEMOCRACY NEEDS TO BE RIGGED – JONATHAN TELLS AFRICAN RULERS

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that the current spate of coups across the African continent shows that democracy needs to be ”rejigged” and put in a proper direction. Jonathan made this known during a Democracy Dialogue 2023 organised by the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF) with the theme: “Breaking New Grounds In The Democracy Development Nexus in Africa” in Yenagoa.

10. COURT ORDERED KANO GOVERNOR TO PAY N30 BILLION COMPENSATION

A Federal High Court in Kano on Friday ordered the Kano State Government to pay the Incorporated Trustees of Eid Grand Shop Owners the sum of N30 billion as compensation for the unlawful demolition of their properties. The judge, Samuel Amobeda, who gave the order, said the action of the Kano State Government against the applicants was barbaric and unconstitutional.
