1.) WHY I WILL NEVER NEGOTIATE WITH BANDITS  –ZAMFARA GOVERNOR

The governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has reiterated his administration’s position of not engaging in dialogue with bandits in the state.

A statement issued by the senior special assistant to the governor on media and publicity, Suleiman Bala, said Mr Lawal gave the reassurance during weekly preaching organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Friday.

According to him, negotiating with the criminals would only embolden them to carry out their heinous crimes and also create an atmosphere of fear for law-abiding citizens. 

2.) GOV. BUNI APPROVES EMPLOYMENT OF 158 COMMUNITY NURSES

The Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, has given her approval for the hiring of 158 Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu, community nursing graduates.

This was said in a statement made by Mamman Mohammed, Mr. Buni’s spokesperson, on Saturday in Damaturu.

Two groups of college graduates made up the nurses, according to Mr. Mohammed.

He added that the payment of N10,000 monthly allowances to 393 students of state origin enrolled in the college’s National Diploma and Basic Midwifery programs had also received the governor’s approval.

3.) ISRAEL’S MILITARY DENIES USING WHITE PHOSPHORUS BOMBS IN GAZA

The Israeli military said on Friday it has made no use of white phosphorus in its Gaza war this week, in an apparent denial of a Human Rights Watch report.

“The current accusation made against the IDF (Israel Defence Forces) regarding the use of white phosphorus in Gaza is unequivocally false,” it said in a statement.

The Human Rights Watch (HRW) alleged late on Thursday that it had verified Israel’s use of white phosphorus munitions through interviews and videos showing the chemical substance was fired on two locations along the Israelitebanon border and over the Gaza City port.

4)  KANO GOV. SIGNS 2023 SUPPLEMENTARY BUDGET INTO LAW

The governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has assented to the 2023 Supplementary Budget of N58.1 billion.

This is contained in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Sanusi Dawakintofa, in Kano on Saturday.

Mr Yusuf assured the people of the state that his administration would adhere strictly to the principles of fiscal discipline as the money appropriated would be judiciously utilised in an accountable and transparent manner.

5) TROOPS RESCUE SIX KIDNAP VICTIMS, NEUTRALISE ONE BANDIT IN KADUNA

The 1 Division Nigerian Army says its troops have rescued 6 kidnapped victims and 1 bandit neutralised in Kaduna State.

The acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, who confirmed the development in a statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday, said that the victims were rescued on Friday.

Yahaya said that the ongoing clearance operation by the troops of the division had continued to yield positive results.

6.)  OGUN POLICE ARREST MAN FOR STEALING 47 BAGS OF RICE

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one person for allegedly stealing 47 bags of rice from his employer in the Ijebu area of the state.

This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Saturday.

The suspect, Damilola Bada, was said to have stolen the bags of rice belonging to a company, Chicken & Co., amounting to N2,500,000.

7.) THREE DIE IN RIVAL CULT CLASH IN OGUN

The Ogun State Police Command, on Saturday said it has discovered three unidentified bodies of young men suspected to have been killed by another gang of rival cult group in an abandoned building at Abibatun Toronbi Community, Ijoko-Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.

This is coming barely after a month of bloodbath in Sagamu during which at least eight lives were lost to rival cult killings.

8.) KWARA STATE POLYTECHNIC DISOWNS FORMER STUDENTS ARRESTED FOR MURDER

Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has disowned two female students who were arrested and paraded on Wednesday at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja for their involvement in the murder of a socialite and hotel owner in the state.

According to Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the two suspects, Joseph Joy Adama and Vandora Davies Oreoluwa, claimed to be students of the institution. However, in a press release issued by the school’s Public Relations Officer, Halimat Garba, on Thursday, the management denied that the suspects were their students, stating that they had been rusticated from the institution due to poor academic performance. 

9.) HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES URGE GOVERNMENT TO DECLARE STATE OF EMERGENCY IN HEALTH

The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the health sector and allocate significant votes to it in the 2024 budget estimates.

This followed a motion by Rep. Fayinka Oluwatoyin (APC-Lagos) during plenary in Abuja.

The motion was titled, “Need for the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHDA) to collaborate with relevant health agencies in states and Local Governments to ensure the functionality of Primary Healthcare Centres.”

10.) ANAMBRA STATE EMERGES BEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE COMMISSION IN NIGERIA

The best Local Government Service Commission in Nigeria has been awarded to Anambra State for the adoption of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The award ceremony was organized by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms of the Presidency under the auspices of Nigeria Govtech Public Service Awards.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Honourable Anthony Collins Nwabunwanne, Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Chief Vincent Ezeaka received the award on behalf of the government and people of the state.
