Why China’s CNPC is suspending operations in Niger

Squeezed between terrorist attacks on its facilities and the closure of its pipeline by Benin and then Niger, the Chinese group is closing its site ‘until the situation improves’.

 

In a memo to its employees on 21 July, the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), which uses the oil pipeline between Niger and Benin, said it was suspending operations at its Agadem oil site in Niger.
