Wike Revokes PDP National Secretariat Land in Abuja
By Aisha Musa
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land rights of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat in Abuja, citing violations of land use regulations and non-compliance with statutory requirements.
The decision was conveyed in an official letter signed by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, the Director of Land Administration at the FCT Administration (FCTA), on behalf of the minister.
Titled “Notice of Revocation of Right of Occupancy With File No. Misc 81346 In Respect Of Plot No. 243 Within Central Area (A00) District, Abuja,” the letter was addressed to the PDP National Chairman, informing the party of the revocation of its land rights.
“I have been directed to refer to the above Right of Occupancy granted to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Secretariat, and inform you that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has, in the exercise of powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap. L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, revoked your rights, interests, and privileges over Plot No. 243 within Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja,” the letter stated.
The FCTA explained that the decision was made because the PDP’s actions contravened Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.
The letter further stated that the property now belongs to the FCT Administration, which will take immediate possession of it.
The minister had previously revoked 4,794 land titles due to the non-payment of ground rent for over 10 years.
The affected property owners are in prime districts such as Central Area, Garki I and II, Wuse I and II, Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape, where a total of 8,375 property owners have failed to pay ground rent for the past 43 years.
