Yobe Govt Hosts Strategic Stakeholders Engagement to Strengthen Primary Healthcare

The Yobe State Government, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, has convened a one-day strategic engagement with key stakeholders aimed at strengthening the Primary Healthcare (PHC) system across the state.

Presided over by Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, COMN (Chiroman Gujba) at the WAWA Hall, Government House Damaturu, the high-level meeting brought together traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, healthcare professionals, and service users.

The initiative is part of Governor Buni’s broader agenda to enhance collaboration among stakeholders, deepen grassroots participation, and chart a path toward accessible, efficient, and people-centered healthcare delivery.

In his address, Governor Buni reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare outcomes across Yobe State noting that his government has made significant investments in the health sector, including allocating 15% of the state’s annual budget to health sector surpassing the Abuja Declaration benchmark.

Other investment the Governor said includes the establishing the Yobe State Contributory Health Management Agency and the Yobe State Drugs and Consumable Management Agency to enhance healthcare financing and ensure the availability of quality drugs and consumables.

“Investing over N5.7 billion to upgrade the state’s PHC system, including the rehabilitation and standardization of 53 Primary Health Centres.

“Recruiting 267 health personnel including 140 beneficiaries of the ‘Buni Scholars’ initiative and 127 volunteer health technicians to address human resource gaps in rural health facilities.

“Upgrading health infrastructure, such as constructing a modern maternity and child care complex and building 142 Primary Healthcare facilities and equipping secondary and tertiary health institutions,” the governor said.

The stakeholder engagement served as a platform for participants to share insights, identify challenges, and recommend strategies for improving service delivery at the primary healthcare level.
