Yobe’s Post-Insurgency Recovery Requires Multi-sectoral Development, Says Gov. Buni
By Hussaini Ibrahim
YOBE, Nigeria — Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has said the state’s recovery from more than a decade of Boko Haram insurgency must be driven by a coordinated, multisectoral development strategy that prioritises infrastructure, peace and social stability.
The governor made the remarks on Wednesday while inspecting the August 27 Stadium in Damaturu, one of several flagship projects executed by his administration.
DAILY HINT reports that the visit formed part of the governor’s engagement with stakeholders and the media to showcase progress made in stabilising communities and rebuilding critical infrastructure affected by insurgency.
Buni thanked journalists for visiting the state to independently assess developments on the ground, noting that the tour provided an opportunity to witness both completed projects and the prevailing peace across Yobe.
“Let me sincerely thank you for coming to Yobe to see for yourselves the modest achievements we have been able to put in place and the relative peace we are enjoying,” the governor said.
He recalled that Yobe was among the states worst hit by Boko Haram violence, stressing that post-conflict recovery after years of insecurity could not be confined to a single sector.
“After over a decade of Boko Haram insurgency, the recovery strategy has to be multisectoral. That is why we have given attention to all sectors of development,” Buni said.
He noted that the area hosting the August 27 Stadium was once under Boko Haram control but has since been fully secured and redeveloped as part of the state’s post-insurgency reconstruction efforts.
According to the governor, the transformation of such locations reflects the progress recorded in restoring security and normalcy across the state.
“You can see how peaceful Yobe is today. At a point in time, where we are standing was under Boko Haram control,” he said.
During the inspection, Buni directed that heavy-duty vehicles should not be allowed around the stadium environment to protect the facility and ensure public safety.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work executed at the stadium, describing it as a project that delivers value and underscores his administration’s commitment to sustainable development.
“I am really impressed with what I have seen, because that is how it should be to have value,” the governor said.
