The Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has committed to bolstering Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure across all 44 local government areas as part of its commemoration of World Science Day 2024.

The announcement was made by the state’s Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mohammed Tajo Othman, during the week-long event themed “Global Science for Global Wellbeing.”

Othman highlighted the pivotal role of science and technology in driving innovation and societal progress.

He emphasized the ministry’s unwavering commitment to fostering a thriving ecosystem for science and technology in Kano, including initiatives such as integrating STEM education into the school curriculum.

“This week of activities has provided an invaluable platform to recognize the exceptional contributions of Kano’s scientists, engineers, educators, researchers, and innovators,” Othman stated.

“We remain dedicated to cultivating an environment where innovation and creativity can flourish.”

The commissioner also expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for his unwavering support and commitment to advancing science and technology in the state.

Governor Yusuf echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to investing in research, technology, and education initiatives to equip Kano’s populace with the necessary skills and knowledge for the future.

“We aim to harness the power of science and technology to drive social progress, economic growth, and environmental sustainability,” Yusuf said.

“By working together, we can address pressing global challenges and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable world.”

The 2024 Science and Technology Week featured a diverse range of activities, including competitions, presentations, and exhibitions, attracting students, researchers, innovators, and industry professionals.

The event also honored individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of science and technology in the state.

With initiatives like the Kano State Data Centre, the Kano Innovation Hub, and ICT training programs, Kano is poised to become a leading science and technology hub in Nigeria.

The state’s commitment to fostering a vibrant ecosystem for scientific research, technological advancement, and digital transformation is evident in its ongoing efforts.
