Tola Community protest alleged move to change name of new Tola district in Adamawa

Members of Tola Community in their thousands have staged a peaceful protest demanding for reinstating the name of newly created Tola district of Mayo-belwa local government in Adamawa state.
Leading the protest in Tola town, Thursday Hon. Ahmadu Ali Tola explained that their community commended the wisdom of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration for the creation of 83 new districts including Tola district.
Hon.Ali stated that the community mobilized immediately after an official announcement by the state government for any interested Community to forward its request through a written memo for creation of a new district from the 11th to 21th November. 2024 which they complied and was approved graciously.
Ali expressed dismay over alleged manipulation by some people in the defunct Binyeri district in trying to block the realization of Tola district by pushing to change the name of the district for their selfish reasons.
He decried that, the as Tola’s abrupt disappearance among the newly established districts by Governor Fintiri informed the community filed a letter of complaint to the Adamawa State House of Assembly and the Adamawa Emirates Council.
He stressed that, the community worry follows the Adamawa emirate council’s announcement of the names of the acting district heads skipping that of Tola calling on the Governor Fintiri’s government and Adamawa Emirate to correct the abnormality.
Corroborating on the plea, Madam Catherine Ishaya and Hon. Aliyu Gangwi urged the authorities concern to do the needful by reinstating the name of Tola district in the new districts and to send an Acting district head .
They applauded the government for the creation of the 83 districts noting that the development will bring people close to the government and it will improve the security of the communities.
They maintained that the Tola is a peaceful Community therefore appeal for rectification of the mistake deliberately caused by some crisis creation vendors wondering how can some people try to shift a goal post in the middle of a football match.
They called for calm even though they support Tola’s return to the list of new districts asserting that the names of the 32 acting district heads of the 34 newly established districts were made public recently in a statement signed by Kabiru Bakari, the acting secretary of the Adamawa Emirate Council but theirs (Tola) was excluded.
Our Correspondent reports that, a delegation led by Hon.Ahmadu Ali Yola had earlier reported the same complain to the State Assembly, Adamawa Emirate Council and the office of the Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs.
They were received by the Special Adviser to Governor Fintiri on Chieftaincy affairs,Hon. Usman Marafa who pledged to do the needful for justice and fairness.
