Gov. Buni Establishes Yobe Mining Development Company, Appoints Engr. Bamodu Yerima as MD
By Yusuf Ali
In a bold move to harness the untapped solid mineral resources in Yobe State, Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, has announced the establishment of the Yobe Mining Development Company (YMDC) and appointed Engr. Bamodu Yerima, a renowned geologist, as its Managing Director.
This initiative is part of the governor’s strategic reforms aimed at creating job opportunities, boosting the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and attracting investments to drive sustainable development.
The Yobe Mining Development Company is tasked with conducting comprehensive feasibility studies on the state’s solid mineral deposits, identifying their commercial viability, and laying the groundwork for attracting investors to unlock their full potential.
Yobe State is known to possess an array of mineral resources, including gypsum, diatomite, limestone, kaolin, and potash, which have remained largely unexploited.
Governor Buni’s appointment of Engr. Yerima, a seasoned geologist with extensive experience in mineral exploration and development, underscores the administration’s commitment in mapping out strategies for the successful exploration and development of the state’s abundant mineral wealth.
This development is in tandem with other key reforms initiated by the Buni administration, including the creation of the Yobe Agency for Public Private Partnership and Investment Promotion (YAPPPIP). Both the mining company and YAPPPIP are integral components of the government’s broader strategy to open up Yobe State to investments, foster industrialization, and enhance economic opportunities for residents.
H.E Gov. Buni’s reforms reflect his visionary leadership and commitment to transforming Yobe State into a hub of economic activities.
By exploring and developing the state’s solid minerals sector, the Buni administration continues to demonstrate its dedication to creating a diversified and resilient economy that will benefit generations to come.
