Again, Kano state commissioner resigns

By Hussaini Ibrahim

For the second time in recent months, a commissioner in Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s cabinet has stepped down, as the Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Maj. Gen. Muhammad Inuwa Idris (Rtd), has resigned from his position.

Governor Yusuf has accepted the resignation, expressing gratitude for the retired military officer’s service.

In a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the government commended Idris for his contributions to the establishment of the newly created ministry.

“We thank Major General Muhammad Inuwa Idris (Rtd) for his unwavering commitment and contributions to the development of Kano State, right from his days in the military. We wish him a peaceful and fulfilling retirement as he transitions into a well-deserved rest from public service,” the governor stated.

Despite his short tenure, the former commissioner was credited with laying a solid foundation for the ministry’s operations.

Governor Yusuf expressed confidence that Idris’ successor would build on this groundwork to strengthen internal security efforts in the state.

This marks the second high-profile resignation in Governor Yusuf’s cabinet within a short period.

Earlier this year, on January 5, 2025, Engr. Muhammad Diggol resigned as the Commissioner for the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation. Diggol had initially served as Commissioner for Transportation before being reassigned in December 2024.

The back-to-back resignations have fueled speculations about internal restructuring within the Kano State government, with political observers closely watching for potential further shake-ups in Governor Yusuf’s administration.
