Modibbo Adama University, Yola Refutes False Report on NELFUND Refund.
From Umar Dankano, Yola.
The Management of Modibbo Adama University Yola (MAU) has refuted a news report published in one of national dailies speculating deductions from students over refunds for NELFUND students loan.
Information and Publicity Officer of the University, Muhammad Nur Ismail disclosed the development in a press release issued in Yola Monday stressing that at no point did Modibbo Adama University confirm any such deductions, and contrary to the report, the refund process did not commence recently.
Ismail described these reports as “false, misleading, and do not reflect the true position of the institution” insisting that the institution remain committed to transparency, accuracy, and the welfare of their students.
“The attention of the management of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, has been drawn to two publications by The Guardian Newspaper dated April 29, 2025, titled “FUTA, MAU confirms deduction, pledged refund,” and another dated May 3, 2025, titled “Students’ loan: MAU begins refund of institutional fees to NELFUND beneficiaries.”
“In fact, the university began refunding eligible students over a month ago, strictly following NELFUND guidelines.
“For the 2023/2024 academic session, out of 1,157 students sent to the University by NELFUND under Batch A, refunds have successfully been made to 679 students. About 60 students were affected by failed payments, and 418 students submitted inaccurate or incomplete bank account details.
“For the 2024/2025 academic session, 4,320 students were listed under Batch B. Of these, 1,151 students qualified for a refund, and 1,039 have already received theirs. The remaining 112 experienced failed transactions, and efforts are ongoing to resolve the issues. It is worth noting that registration for the current session is still in progress.
“Any delays in disbursement are primarily due to incorrect or incomplete account details provided by students. The Bursary Department is actively addressing these issues to ensure all qualified students receive their refunds without further delay.
“As a student-centered leader, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Umar places high priority on the welfare of students and staff, ensuring financial transparency and accountability.
“The management urges the media and the general public to seek clarification from official university channels before disseminating information to avoid spreading misinformation”.The release highlighted
