Coalition of Youths & Women groups seek greater inclusion, interim leadership amidst party crisis in Adamawa

A Coalition of youth and women support groups of the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC),’ has urge National Working Committee of the party to dissolve the state executive committee in Adamawa state.

Rising from a crucial meeting over the state of the party in the state weekend, the Coalition observed with dismay the lingering leadership crisis bedeviling the party in some states including Adamawa calling on the national and Zonal leadership to dissolve and form an interim committee to handle the affairs of the party.

Chairman of the Coalition, Comrade Muhammad Adamu at a press conference in Yola weekend stated that dissolution of official is a step towards addressing the leadership crisis in the party.

Adamu while reading the communique of the Coalition’s meeting announced that,the coalition have resolved to ensure youth and women are fully carried along in the leadership and decision making of the party (ADC).

Comrade Adamu stressed that greater inclusion of the youth and women as well as their active participation in the party activities should be treated as “a right rather than a privilege” noting that youth population is about 70% while women population is 62% which make their percentages the backbone of the country’s numerical strength .
He opined that the youth and women are also integral component of our democratic processes and therefore deserve a good proportional representation in political party structures reaffirming their loyalty to the party, ADC at both national and zonal levels.

“The coalition is here pledging to abide by the directives of the party’s leadership while working to strengthen its position as a leading opposition party in Nigeria.

“ADC as a political party should harness the raw potential embodied in young people and women by reserving at least 50% of elective positions within the party’s structures for them. This is key to fostering inclusion and democratic accountability.

“The position of youth leader should be specifically be reserved for individuals aged 18 to 39, in line with Nigeria’s demographic realities. Anything short of that undermines the spirit of youth representation”. The Chairman declared.

While condemning the act of imposition of non-youth in position mate for youths, Comrade Adamu explained that the Coalition’s position remain on micro-zoning of party offices urging the ADC stakeholders to adopt zonal formula when selecting leaders specifically recommending Hon. Abdurrasheed Adamu Suleiman Khady for consideration as the state youth leader, should the position be zoned to Adamawa Central
