Adamawa government ban on pasting of posters on government, public facilities generate mixed reactions.

The Adamawa state government’s recent ban on pasting of posters on public and government facilities for political, commercial and promotional concerns has been greeted with mixed reactions from residents in the state.

Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Mohammed Sadiq convened the ban order at a press conference in Yola lamenting that, the Ministry frows at the rate at which the campaign, commercial, and promotional posters are indiscriminately defacing government and public facilities.

Hon. Sadiq decried that, the practice not only defaces public infrastructure but also violates environmental sanitation laws and undermines the government’s efforts to maintain a clean and orderly environment across Adamawa State.

“The government observed with great concern the increasing rate at which individuals, groups, and organizations paste campaign, commercial, and promotional posters on government buildings, streetlight poles, public signboards, roundabouts, and other public structures within and outside the state capital.

“The Ministry therefore wishes to announce an immediate ban on the posting of all forms of posters, stickers, and banners on government buildings, public structures, and facilities within the state capital and other parts of Adamawa State.

“Members of the public, political organizations, religious bodies, and business operators are hereby strongly warned to desist forthwith from this illegal practice as any person or group found violating this directive will face the full wrath of the law, as the Ministry will not hesitate to prosecute defaulters”. The statement maintained.

In his response to the development, the State Public Relations Officer of the All Progressives Congress (APC).Hon. Mohammed Abdullahi said if the ban will applicable to all political parties including the ruling People’s Democratic party (PDP) then the party welcomed the idea but if reverse seems to be the case then APC as a party will protest such position.

Barrister Tahir Shehule express support for the ban saying that the decision is good and timely urging the government to ensure defaulters are dealt with decisively to serve as deterant to others while on the contrary, state chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Alhaji Sa’idu Komsiri said that the ADC party welcomed the ban if it is meant for the environmental sanitation provided it is for all.

Meanwhile, in his reaction,a political analyst, Dr.Mahadi Abba applauded the state government for the feat in stopping indiscriminate pasting of posters and banners stressing that the government must ensure that the ban will not be selective in nature .

Abba cautioned the government to be accommodative in approach especially if electioneering campaign periods set in so all political parties and actors can be given a labelled playing ground on pasting their posters and banners for their supporters and electorate to view and make their choices likewise commercial and promotional endeavors.
