Gov Buni remodels August 27 Stadium, builds Buni Yadi facility
By Hussaini Ibrahim
DAMATURU, Nigeria — Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has commenced a massive remodelling of the August 27 Stadium in Damaturu as part of renewed efforts to reposition sports development and youth engagement across the state.
The ongoing remodelling work is transforming the once-aging stadium into a modern sporting arena, with upgraded facilities designed to support athletic training and host major sporting events. Night-time views of the stadium show extensive construction and improved infrastructure, reflecting the scale of the project.
Daily Hint learnt that the initiative forms part of the governor’s broader strategy to use sports as a tool for youth empowerment, peacebuilding and social cohesion in the post-insurgency period.
In a further boost to sports infrastructure, Governor Buni has also approved the construction of a brand-new, state-of-the-art stadium in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area, to ensure inclusive development across all parts of the state.
Residents of Damaturu have welcomed the remodelling of the August 27 Stadium, describing it as a long-overdue intervention.
“This stadium has been neglected for years. What we are seeing now gives us hope that sports will return strongly in Yobe,” said Musa Lawan, a youth leader in Damaturu.
Another resident, Mala Mohammed, said the project would provide positive engagement for young people. “With facilities like this, our youths will have something productive to do, instead of being idle. It will also bring people together,” she said.
According to government officials, the twin projects are designed not only to enhance sporting activities but also to promote unity, community interaction and youth participation across the state.
Daily Hint reports that the investments align with Governor Buni’s vision of leveraging sports infrastructure to consolidate peace, encourage healthy lifestyles and stimulate socio-economic recovery in Yobe State.
