Gov. Buni Leads by Example, Renews Driver’s Licence in Damaturu

By Yusuf Ali

The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. (Dr) Mai Mala Buni CON, has demonstrated leadership by example after personally renewing his National Driver’s Licence at the Driver’s Licence Centre at the Yobe State Internal Revenue Service (Revenue House) in Damaturu in line with the established procedures.

Governor Buni visited the centre where he underwent biometric capture and other official requirements before being issued a temporary driver’s licence pending the production of the permanent card.

By personally complying with the process, the governor sent a strong message on the importance of respect for the law and responsible driving, emphasizing that no one is above established regulations.

Speaking after the exercise, the General Manager of the Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency, Babagana Alhaji Modu, who accompanied the governor alongside the Chairman of the Yobe State Internal Revenue Service, Suleiman Bakura, said the National Driver’s Licence is not only a legal requirement but also an important instrument for safety and security.

According to him, the licence serves as a secure biometric identification that confirms the competence of drivers, strengthens road safety, and supports national security efforts. He therefore urged motorists across the state and the country to obtain or renew their driver’s licences in accordance with the law.

Bature Goniri commended Governor Buni for personally complying with the process, noting that the governor’s action sends a strong message about respect for the law and responsible driving.

“Safer roads begin with lawful and properly certified drivers,” he said, adding that responsible leadership must begin with personal compliance.

The visit also attracted attention from staff and residents at the centre, many of whom commended the governor for demonstrating humility and commitment to due process.
