Fintiri accepts to contest Adamawa Northern senatorial seat come 2027
By Umar Dankano, Yola.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has formally accepted to join the Adamawa Northern senatorial bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The step is generally regarded as a result of mounting calls from the leaders and stakeholders across the Northern Zone considering the laudable achievements his administration as Governor has recorded in the last seven years.
Speaking in Mubi on Saturday at an occasion organized by APC leaders from the five local government areas of the zone including Michika, Maiha, Madagali Mubi North and Mubi South, Governor Fintiri said he has accepted the mandate of the people to represent them at the National Assembly, signaling a major political shift ahead of the next election cycle.
Fintiri expressed gratitude and apprecia tion to the unprecedented support, good will, confidence and show of love by the people of his zone pledging to do more for the development of his people and zone if given the mandate.
“I thank you immensely for this tremendous gesture. Over 10,000 people called on me to come out, and as a grassroots politician, though I did not initially seek this position, I have heard your call and I have answered,” Fintiri declared to thunderous applause.
He pledged to leverage his extensive political goodwill, legislative experience and strategic national connections to attract meaningful development projects, improved federal presence and expanded opportunities for Adamawa North.
Fintiri also used the occasion to call for unity within the party, emphasizing peaceful primaries and warning against political violence.
“As leader of the party, I will never condone irresponsible politicking. We will conduct peaceful primaries, and anyone who engages in thuggery will face tough consequences,” he warned.
However, the move gained more weight as the incumbent senator, Rev. Amos Yohanna, openly backed Fintiri and even purchased the nomination and expression of interest forms for him, a rare show of political alignment and succession planning in the zone.
Senator Amos described the gesture as a deliberate sacrifice made in the overall interest of the zone.
“As a student of Fintiri’s politics, I believe this is the right time to allow experience, excellence and an outstanding track record to take Adamawa North to greater heights. My decision is borne out of love for him and our people,” Amos stated.
Stakeholders at the event praised Fintiri’s track record in the North, insisting his leadership should be taken to the Red Chamber to secure a stronger federal presence for the area.
With this declaration, the political landscape in Adamawa North is rapidly taking shape, as attention now turns to how other contenders will respond.
Some political pundits in the state opined that Fintiri’s transformative leadership style earned him the trust and confidence of the people urging him not to let them if eventually get the ticket of the ruling party and win the election.
