Omarana Campaign Organization Reacts to Court Action over campaign posters in Adamawa

By Umar Dankano,Yola.

The Adamawa State government has been urged to focus more on governance than concentrating on tri virial issues that can’t add value to the people of the state.

African Democratic Congress, ADC gubernatorial candidate, Engineer Umar Suleiman, The Omarana campaign Organization made the declaration while replying the state government’s legal suit instituted against the candidate over alleged violation of laws prohibiting pasting campaign posters indiscriminately in the state.

Director General of the campaign organization, Elder Mark Wosi stated that the Omarana Campaign Organization has received with concern reports of the criminal proceedings instituted by the Adamawa State Government against the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Amb. Engr. Omar Suleiman (Omarana), over allegations relating to the placement of campaign posters.

Elder Wosi who spoke on the matter in Yola on Tuesday stressed that while the organization respect the rule of law and have every confidence in the independence of the judiciary to determine the issues before it, they found it unfortunate that governance appears to be increasingly reduced to political distraction instead of addressing the pressing challenges confronting the people of Adamawa State.

“It is equally disappointing that the Ministry charged with protecting the environment has, throughout the nearly eight years of the present administration, struggled to provide any semblance of solutions or a lasting solutions to the persistent challenges of indiscriminate waste disposal, overflowing refuse dumps, poor sanitation, blocked drainage systems, and other environmental concerns that continue to affect communities across Adamawa State.

“These environmental challenges have remained visible across many towns and communities, yet they have not received the level of urgency that citizens expect.

“The Omarana Campaign Organization believes that the people of Adamawa deserve an environmental policy that goes beyond selective enforcement. Our vision of “Adamawa That Works, For Today, For Tomorrow” is founded on practical solutions that will restore cleanliness, modernise waste management, beautify our cities, combat deforestation, promote massive tree planting, protect our forests, and create a greener, cleaner, healthier, and more climate-resilient Adamawa.

“It is therefore surprising that, at a time when citizens are yearning for solutions to unemployment, insecurity, poor infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and economic development, the government has chosen to prioritise the prosecution of a governorship candidate over allegations relating to campaign posters.

“Our campaign has already issued a clear directive to all supporters, volunteers, coordinators, and members of the Omarana Movement to immediately desist from the indiscriminate placement of posters, banners, stickers, and other publicity materials on public infrastructure or private property.

“This directive reflects our unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility and lawful political engagement. Environmental sustainability is not merely a campaign message for Amb. Engr. Omar Suleiman; it is a fundamental pillar of his development agenda for Adamawa State”.Wosi pointed out.

It could be recalled that the government through its ministry of environment has warned political parties and their respective candidates of various political office seekers to desist from pasting campaign posters indiscriminately or risk being prosecuted.
