Jigawa ADC Members Petition Party Chairman Over Sabo Nakudu’s Alleged ICPC Indictment

By Sani Musa

A group of members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State has petitioned the party’s National Chairman, urging the leadership to reconsider the political future of Senator Sabo Nakudu over allegations contained in reports relating to constituency projects.

The petition submitted to the ADC National Secretariat was jointly signed by Abubakar Sani (ADC Membership Card No. JI-GWA-GW-71427) and Ibrahim Mai Jama’a (ADC Membership Card No. JI-GWA-GW-218332).

The petitioners stated that Senator Nakudu, who represented Jigawa South-West Senatorial District between 2015 and 2023 and recently contested the ADC governorship primary alongside Hon. Bashir Adamu, (Matawallen Kazaure), was named in reports arising from an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

According to the petition, the ICPC reportedly recovered about ₦2.8 billion from Senator Nakudu and two other lawmakers in connection with constituency projects.

It also cited reports alleging that the commission recovered two Toyota Hilux vehicles, water pumping machines, motorcycles, and drilling rigs allegedly linked to companies associated with the former senator.

The petition referenced a Premium Times report published on 12 April 2022, titled:

The petition also cited a Headtopics report published on 25 April 2022, titled:
“ICPC Indicts Bwacha, Nakudu, Others Over Constituency Projects.”

The petition further noted that public affairs commentator Dr. Reuben Abati also commented on the matter in a Facebook post on 25 April 2022.
The petitioners argued that the allegations and the reports surrounding them could expose the ADC to political attacks ahead of the 2027 governorship election if Senator Nakudu eventually emerges as the party’s candidate.
They maintained that the party should conduct thorough due diligence on all aspirants seeking elective office, arguing that presenting candidates facing serious public controversies could undermine the ADC’s campaign for accountable and transparent governance in Jigawa State.

According to the petition, the people of Jigawa State are looking to the ADC for credible leadership and good governance after years of APC administration, and the party should avoid actions that could negatively affect its electoral prospects.

The petition concluded by urging the National Chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to carefully review the issues raised and take appropriate action in the interest of both the party and the people of Jigawa State.
