1. PETROL PRICE COULD BE REDUCED THIS WEEK – DEALERS
Oil dealers said on Saturday that the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, may be reduced in filling stations operated by independent marketers this week, following the massive imports of PMS by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
2. BOKO HARAM/ISWAP CLASH: OVER 70 TERRORISTS KILLED
About 70 combatants and commanders were killed in a clash between Boko Haram and its rival terrorist group, ISWAP on Saturday. Sources said that the in-fighting between the two terrorists’ rival groups worsened in recent times with a fresh flow of arms and combatants from the Sahel ISIS to join ISWAP in the Chad Basin to restrengthen control of the region by the terrorists.
3. SUSPECTED BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS ATTACKED CONVOY OF YOBE GOVERNOR
Suspected Boko Haram fighters ambushed the security escorts of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, on Saturday, killing one policeman and injuring six others. The attack occurred on ng Jakana-Mainok expressway in Borno State.
4. MY REGIME WON’T LET ASSU EMBARK STRIKE AGAIN – TINUBU
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that his administration would take all necessary actions to ensure Nigerian universities do not embark on strike again. President Tinubu said the federal government was willing to establish synergy with all the academic unions within universities in the country, as well as exhaust all avenues for dialogue before any strike.
5. UNKNOWN GUNMEN KILLED PASTOR IN KADUNA
Some unknown gunmen have killed a pastor in charge of the Evangelical Church Winning All, Damakasuwa in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Amako Maraya. The wife of the cleric was also abducted by the gunmen.
6. FORMER ONDO MILITARY GOVERNOR, GEN OPALEYE DIES OF HEART ATTACK
A former military Governor of old Ondo State, Major General Ekundayo Babakayode Opaleye (rtd), is dead.
According to Leadership, General Opaleye died of a heart attack in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, in the early hours of Saturday, November 18.
He was military governor old Ondo State (before the creation of present-day Ekiti State) from August 1986 to December 1987, during the regime of Military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.
He took over from Admiral Mike Akhigbe of blessed memory before handing over to Commodore Olabode George.
7. TERRORIST COMMANDERS, BANDIT LEADERS, OTHER KILLED IN MILITARY OPERATIONS – DHQ
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said terrorist commanders, bandit leaders, and other criminals undermining the security of the country have been neutralised.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. Edward Buba made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
Buba said the Nigerian military has continued to target the leadership and chains of command of the terrorists, insurgents and extremist groups across the country.
The DHQ spokesman added that the ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations nationwide have yielded encouraging results.
He said the operations of the last week had resulted in the elimination of no fewer than 50 terrorists and the arrest of 122 of them in different operations across the country.
8. CHIEF JUDGES KNEEL BEFORE GOVS TO BEG FOR FUNDS, VEHICLES – AKPATA
A former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Olumide Akpata, said Nigerian political elites have turned judges into beggars.
Akpata, a governorship aspirant of the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State, said some state Chief Judges kneel before their governors to beg for funds, official vehicles and accommodations.
The former NBA president said these while speaking recently at the International Bar Association (IBA) Conference in Paris, France.
According to Akpata, the absence of financial autonomy and the impoverishment of Nigerian judges have turned them into tools in the hands of politicians.
9. CCB ARRAIGNS KANO ANTI-GRAFT AGENCY BOSS FOR ALLEGED ABUSE OF OFFICE, OTHERS
The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has arraigned the Chairman of the Kano State Anti-Graft Commission, Muhuyi Magaji, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja for alleged abuse of office and other charges.
10. AT NEARLY N3TR, CURRENCY IN CIRCULATION NEARS PRE-NAIRA REDESIGN LEVEL
The currency-in-circulation (CIC) has reached a new high of N2.99 trillion by October 31, 2023, inching closer to the level it was before the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), latest data from the apex bank has revealed.
