Adamawa government, Federal Agencies & World Bank trains 50 on GBV in Yola.

The Adamawa state government in collaboration with National Centre for Disease Control,NCDC,Covid 19 preparedness and response project,COPREP(World Bank project) have sentisitised 50 participants on gender based violence (GBV).
The two days training workshop held in Yola recently had participants drawn from the 21 local government areas in the state and were sensitized on prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/ Sexual Harassment (SEAH/SH).
In his welcome address,COPREP Project Coordinator Mr. Damba D. Kwinke said the aim of the capacity building training workshop was to broaden the knowledge of stakeholders on SEA/SH and GBV and Referral Pathway.
Kwinke urged the participants to be attentive for good takeaways from invited seasoned resource persons noting that GBV is one of the global Menace affecting women, men, girls and boys that needs to be urgently addressed.
Earlier in his remarks, State Coordinator of World Health Organization (WHO) in Adamawa State Dr. Ahemen T.A. applauded the organisers and the contribution s of traditional leaders, women and youth leaders from each local council.
Ahemen stressed that,”GBV happened every where in the world and can happen in our communities, place of work, schools, market and other institution”.
Ahemen also noted that, for this program to have reach it target, traditional leaders have vital roles to play in every activities especially in Immunization and outbreak response in the state.
“GBV cases should be reported as it will help survivors to face any STI’s, avoid unwanted pregnancy and truma, and we need to work together to mitigate these menace in our communities”.
Another resource person, Barrister
Fatima Bello Raji in her paper presentation on legal framework on GBV. stated that the rights of victim are protected through legislation as provided by laws of the land.
Barrister Raji outlined the areas where the laws and Legislation are applicable as it concerns the
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 ( AS AMENDED) including ; Administration of Criminal justice Act / ACJL, Penal Cord law 2018.
VAPP Laws ( Violence Against Person Prosecution.
Child Right Act / Child Protection Law,Anti-Torture ACT,Police ACT & Regulations International / Regional Instrument.
Similarly, the GBV Consultant Mr. Abdulmalik Yusufu presented the concepts definition of Referral and referral pathway saying why it is important to refer to health services.
Yusufu also discussed on how to report a case of GBV and how he/she may disclose his/her express to a trust family members or friends.
