Adamawa govt. Launches Solar Mini Grid Project to boost energy generation

The Adamawa State government in conjunction with the Rural Electrification Agency, REA and Yola Electricity Distribu tion Company,YEDC has launched the construction of solar hybrid interconnec ted mini grid for three communities in the state.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremo ny held in Yola, the state capital,Governo r Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri praised president Bola Tinubu for fostering greater private sector participation in the power sector with a view to enhance access to power generation to Nigerians.

Governor Fintiri explained that his administration is also poised in tackling
energy poverty through sustainable and renewable energy solutions appreciating the efforts of the Rural Electrification Agency, led by Abba Aliyu in expanding electricity accessibility nationwide.

Governor Fintiri said that the siting of the solar hybrid interconnected Mini Grid in Kofare,Mbamba and Saminaka communi ties was a deliberate and calculated move to provide electricity to the people.

Fintiri described the project as a major milestone that will provide reliable electricity to the benefiting communities, boost economic activities, improve healthcare and education services, and enhance the overall quality of life.

He noted that the project is a direct outcome of the state’s engagement with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and renewable energy investors during the 2025 Empowering Adamawa investment roundtable in Abuja.

He explained that the state created an investor-friendly environment by offering incentives such as free land, credit guarantees, and concessional financing to attract renewable energy investments.

According to him, over 20 REA-approved solar mini grids are currently being deployed across Adamawa to expand electricity access to other communities.

He commended the partnership between the Rural Electrification Agency, Mahashakti Nigeria Limited, and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) for advancing sustainable energy development.

Governor Fintiri urged residents of Kofare, Mbamba, and Saminaka to safeguard the facilities, emphasizing that the project will serve as a catalyst for economic growth and community development across the benefiting areas.
