Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have unleashed terror attack killing seven people destroying houses and properties on Banga and Larh communities in Hong local government area of Adamawa state.
Report from the area indicates that attack was launched by the insurgents in the wee hours of Wednesday while local residents were asleep as they were shooting sporadically towards all directions leaving six people dead, one person missing, and significant destruction in its wake.
Among the casualties was a local vigilante who died after a bomb exploded during an attempt to secure the area. In Banga, two men were shot dead, and a woman reportedly died after falling during the chaos. In nearby Larh, two more individuals were also killed under yet unclear circumstances.
The assault also saw a police van from Garaha blown up by an improvised explosive device (IED). Fortunately, all occupants had exited the vehicle moments before the explosion, narrowly escaping death.
Locals described the attack as “heartbreaking,” expressing despair over the mounting losses and lack of effective protection. “We’re losing our people to these monsters, and now even those protecting us are targets,” said a community member who requested anonymity.
Adding to the tragedy, a young boy from Banga remains missing. His phone reportedly rings without response, fueling fears of possible abduction — a hallmark of Boko Haram operations. The group has a long, grim history of kidnappings, including the infamous 2014 Chibok girls’ abduction.
An unexploded bomb was also discovered in Banga, prompting urgent calls for bomb disposal teams to avert further disaster.
This incident comes just two months after similar attacks in Kwapre and other Hong villages, reinforcing fears that Boko Haram — and its offshoot, ISWAP — may be regaining strength in northeastern Nigeria.
Residents continue to voice frustration over the lack of adequate security presence. “We feel abandoned,” one villager said. “These attacks keep happening, and we’re left to fend for ourselves.”
Confirming the development to journalists on mobile phone interview, the executive chairman of the Hong local government area, Hon.Inuwa Usman Wa-aganda said that report at his disposal have revealed seven people lost their lives and properties were destroyed.
Hon. Wa-aganda stated that one person has been hospitalized while other was reported missing adding that the peace has been restored with the presence of local and conventional security drafted to the area.
Our Correspondent in Yola reported that the security agencies especially the
military and police have yet to release any official statement at the time of fielding in this report, though local sources confirm that troops responded to the attack — arriving only after significant damage had occurred.
Most of the inhabitants of the attacked communities called for more proactive measures with a view to curtailing future reoccurrence and counter the persistent insurgent threat.
