Dan-Ali Urge For advance Security Tolerance, Political Unity in Zamfara
Former Minister of Defence, retired General Mansur Dan-Ali, has described Zamfara State as one of Nigeria’s most endowed states, citing its natural resources, agriculture, livestock, strategic location and economic potential.
Dan-Ali made the remarks while commemorating the 30th anniversary of the creation of Zamfara State at his residence in Abuja. He said the state’s strategic position makes it an important commercial and supply centre for neighbouring north-western states, including Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto and Katsina.
He also noted that Zamfara, created in 1996, had recorded significant infrastructural development over the past 30 years. He acknowledged the contributions of the state’s founding fathers, including Alhaji Muhammadu Mode, Alhaji Umaru Dangaladima, Alhaji Umaru Dan-Ali Bimin Magaji, Malam Yahaya Gusau, General Aliyu Mohammed Gusau and Alhaji Umaru Aliyu Shinkafi.
On security, Dan-Ali called on the Federal Government to increase the presence of military personnel in Zamfara to combat banditry. He said the state had lacked military barracks for more than 40 years until his tenure as Minister of Defence, when efforts were made to facilitate greater federal military presence.
The retired general further urged political leaders in the state to shun politics of personal interest and bitterness, saying greater political stability and peaceful coexistence among politicians were necessary for Zamfara’s development.
Reflecting on his tenure as Defence Minister, Dan-Ali said he made efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security through international cooperation and projects aimed at improving the country’s security architecture.
