A group, the Concerned Civil Society Groups in Borno State has urged the Federal Government to prosecute all those displaying foreign flags during the end bad governance protests and Take Urgent Action Against any foreign interference in Domestic Affairs of the country.

The group in a statement issued by it Borno state Coordinator, Abdul-Hadi Yunusa and made available to journalists in Maiduguri on Sunday said” the displaying of foreign flags is an attempt to undermine national sovereignty which suggest that some individuals or groups do not fully support the country’s independence and governance structures.

He said it is a constitutional rights of every Nigerian to protest as enshrine in the Nigeria’s 1999 constitution (as amended) but the displaying of foreign flags is an treasonable offence and called on the Federal Government to prosecute these disgruntle elements hoisting foreign flags and looting public and private property.

The group therefore, called on the Federal Government to Investigate the incident by conducting a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible for displaying foreign flags during the protest Enforce legal consequences by applying appropriate legal measures to ensure that such actions do not go unpunished and that justice is served in accordance with Nigerian laws.

Reinforce efforts to promote unity and patriotism among all citizens, emphasizing the importance of national integrity in addressing and resolving our collective issues.

“The sovereignty of a nation is its most treasured asset. It enables countries to govern and shape their own future without external intrusion. However, Borno The Concerned Civil Society Groups in Borno State has observed a lot of foreign interference by foreign government and their agents in Nigeria’s domestic affairs”, Yunusa said

The group said “KGCF is therefore advocating for a strong and unified response to protect Nigeria’s autonomy and uphold the integrity of our democratic processes. Addressing these foreign influences is essential to preserving our national stability, ensuring that Nigeria’s decisions and policies remain in the hands of its people.”

The statement said ” this issue is crucial and is of national significance. Hence, there is the need for the Federal Government of Nigeria to take decisive action against foreign interference in our internal affairs.”

“The Concerned Civil Society Groups in Borno State strongly condemns the display of foreign flags by a segment of protesters during the recent national peaceful protest in Nigeria. During the nationwide protest, which was intended to address critical domestic issues and express the collective voice of Nigerian citizens, a small fraction of Nigerians collude with foreigners to display foreign flags. This act not only undermines the unity and sovereignty of Nigeria but also raises serious questions about the motives and affiliations of those involved., The state Coordinator added.

The Group acknowledged the right to peaceful protest and consolidation of democratic governance,, stressing that the display of foreign flags and symbols in this context was a flagrant violation of the laws, national unity and patriotism and unpatriotic actions can erode the trust between citizens and the government that are crucial for addressing Nigeria’s challenges and advancing national interests.
