EYN IDP’s Camp Sec.School emerged winner of Chess tournament competition in Adamawa

EYN Internally Displaced Person’s Camp Secondary school Malkohi has won the 2025 chess tournament competition organized for secondary schools in Adamawa state.
The tournament organized by Queenvee Chess Academy in conjunction with the Nigeria School Sports Federation and sponsored by Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe of Adamawa southern Senatorial Zone saw St.Peter’s Junior Seminary winning second position as GSS Karewa emerged third position respectively.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the tournament in Yola Tuesday, Senator Binos Yaroe expressed his happiness for being part of history to the young generation especially in enhancing their intellectual capacity through chess game.
Senator Yaroe said that he sponsored the tournament in order to support Miss Vivian Ibrahim in her efforts to promote Chess game in the State, especially among the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who needs prayers and support from all and sundry considering their predicament at a critical moment.
In his words, “Chess is a game that develops the mind, that keeps people engaged, and takes people off the street. When she (referring to Vivian Ibrahim) approached me that, she wanted to organize this tournament, and she needed support, I wholeheartedly welcomed it, and I stepped forward to sponsor the event”.
Yaroe, who was pleased with the large turnout of various secondary school students at the competition, urged students to engage in meaningful adventures that would develop their minds positively.
In her remarks, Miss Vivian Ibrahim, the Founder of Queenvee Chess Academy, stated that, Chess game has shaped and reshaped her life, adding that it connects her with high profile personalities and public figures within and outside the country.
Ibrahim pointed out that, Senator Binos is a listening father who is ready at any time to help when he is reached out. Hence, he agreed to sponsor the Chess Tournament for the second time for students in the State.
She described Chess as a guide to life, noting that, the game requires strategies and critical thinking in order to defeat an opponent.
According to her, “Chess is a game of strategy, it sharpens the brain. In Chess, you go to war with your mind. You have to be positive in your next move. One advantage of playing Chess is that people playing Chess don’t suffer from memory lose when they grow old”.
Ibrahim said that this was the third edition of the secondary schools tournament, adding that one of her objectives was to ensure children in the IDP Camp socialize with other children outside the camp.
Nugwa Timothy and Yohanna Bulus, who emerged the overall winners for female and male categories respectively, could not hide their joy when interacting with newsmen shortly after the tournament.
According to them, Chess is a game for critical thinkers and people with deep sense of reasoning and high level of strategies.
