FG hails AUN for quality education, as 250 students including 12 chibok girls graduate.

The Federal government has reiterated its commitment in provision of quality education to Nigerians as a gate way to matching global competitive developm ental trends.

Vice president Kashim Shettima gave the assertion at the graduation ceremony of the 2026 class of the American University Yola, AUN held on Saturday in Yola, Adamawa state stressing that the President Bola Tinubu’s administration is poised to provision of quality education for graduates capable of competing globally.

Represented by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, Shettima said that AUN is an institution that can simply describe as a centre of excellence that has consistently produced results and impacted lives across the African continent.

Shettima expressed gratitude to the AUN for taking the lead through partnership with the federal government in rehabilitating and educating some of the rescued Chibok schoolgirls noting that such gesture proved that the University has distinguished itself as truly “genuine Continental University”in Africa

“The American University of Nigeria belongs to the category of institutions that consistently produce outcomes. It has become one of the great institutions on African soil, deeply connected to African realities and the possibilities of the African future,

‎“What AUN has done by opening its community to these young women, surrounding them with academic rigor and human care, and presenting them to the world with education and dignity is more than an educational achievement. It is an act of institutional faith,” he stated.

In her remarks, the Minister of federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajiya Iman Suleiman Ibrahim commended the AUN for the institutional compassion and professionalism it exhibited in handling the unique case of the rescued chibok school girls who are now graduates .

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry,Mrs Esuabana Asanye Nko, Ibrahim said that the federal govt. took the studies of rescued chibok school girls with all seriousness which made it possible for their graduation.

She noted that the University Community ,Parents and guardians of the innocent chibok school girls are also part of their history of from captivity to grace in life assuring that the government would continue to be their for them.

In their separate speeches, one of the graduating Chibok girls, Margret Yanama and Mr. Yakubu Nkika, Chairman Chibok Community expressed delight with the efforts of the University, the Federal govt. through the ministry of women Affairs with the parents in changing the narrative in the lives.

The Convocation Speaker, Stephanie Basari, the journalist who reported the abduction of the chibok school girls and Bring Back our girls campaign described their graduation as “fulfilment of a dream “urging them to take up the challenge and take it as a life’s destiny so that they can be useful for themselves and the society.

Earlier,the President of the university, Dr. DeWayne Frazier, described the 2026 commencement ceremony as a celebration of leadership, resilience and the enduring power of education.

‎Frazier said the institution, which has spent over two decades building academic excellence, remains committed to producing future leaders equipped with the tools and skills needed to transform society.

‎“Graduation means completion, but commencement means the beginning of a new journey where our graduates are equipped to become leaders and change-makers,” he said.

Frazier described the graduation of the “Chibok 12,” as moment of a triumph of hope over fear and resilience over trauma.

‎“For many years the world cried, ‘Bring Back Our Girls.’ Today, we send our girls home educated, empowered and prepared for the future,” he said.
