Gashua Market Thrives Under Gov. Buni’s Visionary Leadership
By Hussaini Ibrahim Sulaiman
The Gashua Ultra-Modern Market, constructed by the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni, has emerged as a vibrant hub of economic activity, providing livelihoods for thousands and symbolizing the administration’s commitment to infrastructural and economic development.
Commissioned as part of Governor Buni’s strategic effort to boost commerce and empower communities, the market is now filled to capacity, bustling with traders, artisans, and entrepreneurs. The thriving marketplace has not only enhanced commercial activity in the region but also significantly contributed to reducing unemployment, especially among the youth.
“This market has become a lifeline for many of our youths who now earn a living through various trades and services,” said a local trader. “We are grateful for this initiative.”
Governor Buni’s approach to market development is not limited to Gashua. Similar projects have been replicated in major towns across Yobe State, a move stakeholders say highlights the administration’s broader economic agenda.
While some have questioned the pace of business activity in the newly constructed Damaturu market, officials have assured that such developments take time to mature.
“Inquiries about why the Damaturu market isn’t as active as Gashua yet are understandable,” said Yusuf Ali, Senior Special Assistant on Digital and Strategic Communications. “But history has shown that successful markets like the Monday Market in Maiduguri also took years to flourish.”
Ali expressed confidence that the Damaturu market and others across the state will gradually grow into bustling economic centers, following a natural progression.
“These markets are long-term investments,” he added. “They are monuments of Gov. Buni’s legacy — symbols of economic empowerment and sustainable growth that will continue to serve the people long after he leaves office.”
With commercial activities thriving in Gashua and similar efforts underway in other parts of the state, the Buni administration’s impact on Yobe’s economic landscape appears both strategic and enduring.
