By Hussaini Ibrahim
DAMAGUM, Nigeria — Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has commissioned 50 Jumu’ah mosques across communities in Zone B senatorial district, while also supporting the marriages of 10 female orphans as part of a humanitarian intervention in the state.
The projects were inaugurated during a ceremony held at the Palace of the Mai Fune in Damagum, Fune Local Government Area.
The governor was represented at the event by his deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana.
The development was contained in a statement issued by Yusuf Ali, Focal Person, Digital and Strategic Communications.
According to the statement, the commissioning at Damagum symbolised the formal inauguration of all 50 mosques constructed across the Zone B district under the deputy governor’s foundation.
It added that the initiative also covered the renovation and establishment of 75 Islamic centres aimed at strengthening religious learning and community engagement.
The statement noted that several Islamic preachers had also been recruited to teach basic Islamic knowledge, particularly in rural communities.
The event featured the first Jumu’ah prayer at the newly commissioned mosque, led by Sheikh Dalhatu Abubakar Kanta.
Kanta described mosques as vital institutions for holistic development, stressing their importance in promoting education, unity and brotherhood among communities.
In a major humanitarian gesture, the deputy governor also sponsored and facilitated the marriages of 10 female orphans, which were solemnised during the event.
The intervention, organisers said, reflects the administration’s commitment to social welfare and support for vulnerable groups in the state.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, Prof. Ibrahim Makari, said the mosques would serve as centres for worship, learning and community gatherings.
He added that the project would strengthen religious devotion and foster unity among Muslims in Yobe State and beyond.
Makari further highlighted the spiritual significance of building mosques, noting that such acts attract immense blessings and lasting rewards.
The ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Hon. Lawan Shettima Ali, traditional rulers and top government officials from within and outside Yobe State.
Among those in attendance were the Emir of Fune, Alhaji Saleh Idris Ibn Usman; the Emir of Tikau, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Muhammad; the Emir of Potiskum, Alhaji Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya, as well as emirs from Jama’are, Kaura Namoda and Maru in Zamfara State.
