Gov. Buni’s Two Crowns: Advancing Regional Peace in Lake Chad, Expanding APC NEC
By Yusuf Ali
In a nation where leadership often leans toward the ceremonial, Governor Mai Mala Buni CON stands out not merely by position, but by the purposeful weight of responsibility he bears.
His current dual leadership roles—Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum and Chairman of the 7-Man Committee for the Expansion of the APC National Executive Committee (NEC)—place him at the intersection of regional peacebuilding and internal party stabilization. These two crowns are not coincidental; they are a testament to his capacity for calm strategy and his loyalty to national unity and progress.
As Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum, Governor Buni is spearheading efforts to recalibrate security coordination across borders. The Lake Chad region, long besieged by insurgency and displacement, demands visionary leadership that blends diplomacy with grassroots reality. Buni brings both.
Under his stewardship, collaboration among Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon’s border states is being revived, with emphasis on joint intelligence sharing, rural stabilization, and cross-border agricultural restoration. More importantly, Buni has been a vocal advocate for civil-military cooperation, championing the idea that security is not just boots on the ground, but hope in the hearts of returnees, farmers, and vulnerable communities.
Internally, Buni wears his second crown with distinction. Appointed as the Chairman of the APC NEC Expansion Committee, he is again being called upon to apply his gift for political bridge-building. The task before him—to broaden the party’s executive structure ahead of 2027—is more than administrative. It is deeply symbolic.
It recalls his earlier success as APC’s National Caretaker Chairman, during which he not only resolved factional disputes but also midwifed the party’s rejuvenation. Now, Buni is at the center of the ruling party’s efforts to deepen inclusiveness, expand grassroots representation, and align the party’s internal organs with the realities of a changing political landscape.
By expanding the NEC, the APC is opening its doors wider, and ensuring that no part of the country feels alienated in the run-up to 2027. This is political engineering of the highest order—done not for personal ambition, but for party unity and national progress.
In both roles, Governor Buni is guided by one consistent principle: stability—of region, of party, of country. His actions are not loud, but they are strategic. Not flamboyant, but deeply effective.
As Nigeria prepares for the next phase of its democratic journey, voices like Buni’s—grounded, loyal, and strategic—must be amplified. He stands not just as a governor, but as a national asset: securing our borders, strengthening our institutions, and silently shaping the path to 2027.
These are not just titles. These are responsibilities. And in Governor Mai Mala Buni, they have found a steady hand and a humble heart.
