Gov. Radda Inspects Katsina State Tractor Assembly Plant, Sets Stage for Agricultural Mechanization
By Ibrahim Hussaini
Katsina, Sunday – Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to agricultural development with the establishment of the Katsina State Tractor Assembly Plant.
During an inspection visit on Sunday to the facility, the governor assessed the progress of the project, following the arrival of the first batch of tractor spare parts containers, with additional shipments on the way.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace of work, Governor Radda commended the Chinese firm handling the assembly, highlighting the initiative’s role in advancing mechanized farming in the state.
He noted that the project is not only about assembling tractors but also about empowering local technicians through a structured skills transfer program.
“The facility will train one representative from each of Katsina’s local government areas in tractor assembly, operation, and maintenance,” the governor said.
“These trainees will then manage the ten tractors allocated to their respective LGAs as part of a tractor hiring service.”
The initiative aims to boost agricultural productivity, reduce manual labor, and create employment opportunities for local youth skilled in machinery maintenance.
With Katsina’s economy largely dependent on farming, the project is expected to have a significant impact on food production and rural development.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by key officials, including the Executive Director of Agriculture Services at the Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority, Alhaji Muntaka Badaru Jikamshi; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji AbdulKadir Mamman Nasir; Commissioner of Finance, Hon. Bello Kagara; and Principal Private Secretary, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji, among other aides.
Governor Radda’s administration continues to position agriculture as a priority, ensuring that farmers have access to modern tools and support systems needed to thrive in an increasingly mechanized sector.
