Governor Buni Moves to Bridge Gaps After USAID Funding Cut
By Hussaini Ibrahim, Damaturu
The Yobe State Government has launched an urgent effort to bridge the gaps created by the recent withdrawal of USAID funding, which has disrupted essential services for over 220,000 beneficiaries across the state.
The funding cut has severely impacted critical sectors, including Health, Education, Protection, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Early Recovery/Livelihood, Food Security, and Multipurpose Cash Assistance. With vulnerable communities now at risk, Governor Mai Mala Buni has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant agencies to conduct a thorough assessment and implement urgent measures to mitigate the impact.
In collaboration with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and key partners, the state government has carried out an in-depth analysis to identify gaps and priority needs. The primary focus is now on mobilizing alternative funding sources and ensuring that essential humanitarian and development programs continue uninterrupted.
“The Yobe State Government is fully committed to bridging the gaps left by the funding withdrawal. We are working tirelessly to ensure that affected communities do not suffer from the loss of critical services,” the statement emphasized.
Governor Buni has called on humanitarian partners, development agencies, and stakeholders to step in and support efforts to sustain life-saving interventions. He urged for immediate collaboration to prevent a humanitarian crisis and safeguard the well-being of those dependent on these programs.
As the state intensifies resource mobilization efforts, authorities remain hopeful that strong partnerships and strategic interventions will help bridge the gaps and sustain vital support for the people of Yobe.
