Kaduna Plans Return of 200,000 Out-of-School Children in 4 Years
By Hussaini Ibrahim
The Kaduna State Government has launched an ambitious plan to return 200,000 out-of-school children to classrooms across its 23 local government areas within the next four years under the Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROOSC) programme.
DAILY HINT gathered that the initiative, unveiled on Sunday during a two-day stakeholders’ workshop organized in collaboration with Save the Children, aims to curb the growing number of out-of-school children in the state.
According to Salisu Baba Lawal, a representative of the Kaduna State Ministry of Education, the programme is supported by development partners and will be implemented through strategic collaboration.
“To tackle the dropout crisis, Kaduna has secured funding and is partnering with key actors to ensure all children have access to quality education,” Lawal said.
So far, 405 teachers have been trained, 102 new schools constructed, and 170 others renovated.
DAILY HINT reports that the initiative is receiving strong backing from Governor Uba Sani, with Save the Children and UNICEF serving as major partners. While Save the Children focuses on teacher training and learning tools, UNICEF supports overall education reform.
The programme emphasizes sustainability, gender equality, and support for vulnerable children, with the goal of ensuring equitable access to primary education across the state.
