Laori’s Lead C’ittee to Foreign Minister, Seeks Strengthening Partnership

The House of Representatives Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, chaired by Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, member representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency, convened today with the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, at Tafawa Balewa House.

The meeting is aimed to solidify the strategic partnership between the ministry and the committee in fulfilling their shared mandate of promoting unity, cooperation, and integration across Africa.

During the discussions, Hon. Laori emphasized that the committee’s strategic plan is closely aligned with the aspirations and goals outlined in the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

In response, Amb. Tuggar welcomed the committee and highlighted recent achievements, including Nigeria’s re-election to the African Union Peace and Security Council for another three-year term (2022-2025), representing the West African region.

The Hon. Minister also discussed the significant advantages of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which constitutes the world’s largest free trade zone, uniting 55 countries and eight Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to create a single market for Africa.

A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the committee’s strategic plan, which aligns with the nation’s foreign policy objectives and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
